About Team Stealth
Thursday, 19 August 2004

Team Stealth started in 2004 under the name of 'Wolgarston Wanderer', and the first and last race that the car took part in was at Darley Moor. Unfortunately, it did not qualify for the National Final, but was in for major refurbishment later that year.
Next season, the Wolgarston Wanderer had been renamed 'Stealth'. Stealth was a modified version of the Wolgarston Wanderer, still using the same chassis, but modified slightly with new bodywork etc. This new car's first outing was RAF Cosford in May 2005. The car qualified for the day's final, only to roll whilst in 4th place on the 5th lap. Hopes high, Team Stealth returned later that year at Darley Moor, once again failing to qualify for the National Final, and re-entered again later that year, still not quite managing to qualify, although the car was in need of a new motor.
For the 2006 season, Stealth remained unmodified apart from a new dashboard, which sat on the nose cone at the front of the car. The first race of the 2006 season was at Curborough Race Circuit (19th May). Unfortunately, it dawned on the team that the batteries were apparently past their best, and were in need of replacement.  We finally qualified for our first National Final in the race at Darley Moor on 15th July 2006. We drove a total of 106 miles to finish in 6th place (excluding F35 cars)! That was an equivalent of 70 laps around the 1.5 mile circuit.

At the final on 15th October 2006, Stealth completed 117 miles, finishing in 51st place.

For the 2007 season, new regulations were brought in by Greenpower. The race was now only four hours long with no battery charging. We had modified bodywork and a new front rollbar on the car for the North-West Heat at Darley Moor, with a new floor and slightly modified nose-cone to enable some of the growing drivers to fit in! We qualified for the 2007 final in 38th place, 11 places better than in 2006.

For the final, to make the car more streamlined, and to help cover the front rollbar, we added a new nose-cone. For the first time Team Stealth had a logo for this race: it was printed on the car, and on the team overalls. You can see the logo in the website banner at the top of this page. We completed the 2007 final in a disappointing 55th place: but we realised what the problem was after the race. Some of the battery clips were not on properly, so a lot of power was wasted and the car slowed to a halt in the last hour.

We now supply our feeder middle schools, Brewood and Penkridge, with a car for the 'Goblin' series, for Year 5 and 6 students. Wolgarston High School organised a Goblin event on the school tennis courts in July 2006. It was a poor day for the weather but it was a brilliant event. We are hoping to make the event much bigger next year, and would like to attract more cars.

Our team consists of all-year 10 students, but this year we are hoping that some year 9 students and current year 8 students who move up to the school will be interested, especially after having some experience in the Goblin car which we supply to our feeder middle schools.
